Kirk Cousins responds to Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s ‘good quarterback’ comments

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins really isn’t bothered by much, particularly when he’s locked in to the upcoming football season.

So it’s no surprise he wasn’t concerned with general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s trending comments in an interview with USA TODAY Sports’ Jori Epstein.

When the quarterback was asked if he questioned the Vikings’ commitment to him, he gave the most Kirk Cousins response he could possibly give.

“I haven’t given it much thought with training camp being so busy and consuming so much of my time. So I’m not too concerned about it,” Cousins told media members.

That response can be taken one of two ways: Cousins is purposely pouring a bucket of ice water on a small, obviously unintentional, fire set by a first-year GM, or the veteran quarterback really is unbothered by the comments.

In the interview, Adofo-Mensah called Cousins a “good quarterback.” while also commenting, via Epstein, “we don’t have Tom Brady” and “we don’t have Pat[rick] Mahomes.”

“[The Super Bowl] is more likely to win if you have that quarterback,” said Adofo-Mensah. “It’s very unlikely to have that quarterback.”

The Vikings GM wasn’t necessarily wrong in his comments. Quarterbacks like Brady and Mahomes are indeed hard to find. We’re literally talking about two future Hall of Famers with the first being the greatest quarterback to ever play the game.

Cousins being deemed a good quarterback doesn’t mean he’s incapable of leading his team to a Super Bowl. Matthew Stafford isn’t a Brady or Mahomes-like quarterback, either, and he just won his first Lombardi Trophy with the Los Angeles Rams.

Adofo-Mensah is still completely hopeful Cousins can one day do the same.
