Kirk Cousins named Grand Marshal for 2020 virtual BTN Big 10K

The Big Ten Network Big 10K has gone virtual this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but there will still be a Grand Marshal–and this year’s will make Michigan State fans very happy.

Former Michigan State quarterback and current Minnesota Vikings star Kirk Cousins has been named the Grand Marshal of this year’s event.

The Big 10K, a road race typically held at the end of July in downtown Chicago, will be virtual this year to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of congregating in one place and running together, participants are asked to walk or run either a 5K or 10K anytime between July 26 and August 1 all in the name of raising money for charitable organizations.

BTN is still trying to keep some of the old perks of the race together. Participants who pay the $20 registration fee will receive a team-specific t-shirt, race bib, and Big Ten-themed head band.

The money raised will go to three charities: Feeding America, Alive Rescue, and Special Olympics Chicago. Feeding America has a network of 200 food banks supporting 40 million people on an annual basis. Alive Rescue is an animal welfare charity that helps save, rehabilitate, and adopt animals in need. Special Olympics Chicago provides sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
