Kirk Cousins: ‘I want to be a Minnesota Viking for the rest of my career’

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins isn’t sure what the future holds after Sunday’s season finale against the Chicago Bears.

The team missing the playoffs in consecutive seasons has left a cloud of uncertainty hanging over the entire organization. Things could look drastically different in 2022.

While Cousins wouldn’t delve into the speculation surrounding his future with the team, he did acknowledge he hoped to stick around for the rest of his career. Who could blame him with the supremely talented offensive skilled position players at his disposal?

“I’m just focused on the Bears on Sunday. I have a full day today and a full day the next few days to get ready for them. I certainly want to be a Minnesota Viking for the rest of my career,” Cousins told media members.

No one is questioning Cousins’ talent on the football field.

It’s hard to argue production when the guy has thrown for 3,971 yards, 30 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. Granted, there have been issues with his ability to pull out tight games, especially when facing other elite teams in the league.

But then again, it’s hard to place the blame solely at his feet when the Vikings have statistically been one of the worst defensive teams in the league. There’s also the fact that quarterbacks aren’t so easily replaced, as discussed recently.

The money component will obviously trump everything else, and Cousins has a cap hit of $45 million in the last remaining year of his deal in 2022.
