SCG Muang Thong United coach Radovan Curcic showered praises on his team after their impressive 4-1 home victory over Chonburi in Thai League 1 on Wednesday night.
The victory gave the Kirins a tie for the third place in the league with Port, who lost 2-1 at PT Prachuap in Wednesday night's other late game.
Defending champions Buriram United currently lead the table, enjoying a nine-point advantage over second-placed Bangkok United, who have 57 points to their credit.
Port and Muang Thong both have 48 points with Prachuap trailing them by a single point.
Muang Thong rallied from a one-goal deficit by firing home four times and Curcic claimed his men were "brilliant" in the second half.
"We started under pressure because we were desperate to win the match and claim three points," said the Serbian coach.
"We recovered well in the second half. Our defenders did a great job after the break. Everyone was brilliant out there tonight."
Worachit Kanitsribumphen put the Sharks ahead in the 19th minute but Charyl Chappuis quickly restored equilibrium for Muang Thong.
Jaja Coelho and Heberty Fernandes got going in the second half as they picked up one goal each to give the Kirins a 3-1 upper hand. Jaja then struck again in injury time to claim his second goal of the night.
Meanwhile, Jonatan Reis was the star as Prachuap avenged their earlier loss to Port on Wednesday night.
Reis made the most of a second-minute blunder by Port defenders, rising above goalkeeper Worawut Srisupa to net the first goal for the hosts.
It took Port almost an hour to get back on even terms. Kevin Deeromram set up Nurul Sriyakem whose shot was guided into his own net by Prachuap's Decha Sa-ardchom.
However, Port's respite was only short-lived as Reis took only two minutes to grab the winning goal for Prachuap, who are playing in the top flight for the first time in the club's history.
The Thai League 1 resumed on Wednesday night after a one-month break to allow the Thailand national U23 team to train and participate in the 2018 Asian Games, which ended on Sunday in Indonesia.
Nine more matches are scheduled to be played over the coming weekend.
