Kirby Smart says Georgia is still looking for Saturday opponent

Following a number of COVID-19 outbreaks by Vanderbilt players, Georgia’s home game against the Commodores was rescheduled from its original date of Dec. 5 to this Saturday, December 19th.  On Monday, the game was officially cancelled due to the same reason.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart told Sandra Golden of 680 The Fan that the Dawgs are still looking for an opponent for Saturday to get their 10th and final game of the regular season played.

When asked “Do we have a game on Saturday yet?” by Golden, Smart chuckled and replied: “Not yet.  We’re working but you know it’s one of those things that’s a lot out of our control and very little we can do about it.  I know Dawg Nation is disappointed, I can promise you our seniors are terribly disappointed, but not a lot we can do right now but focus on the next day and the next minute.”

The Bulldogs are currently 7-2 and ranked 9th nationally.  They won’t have a chance at the SEC Championship following losses to Alabama and Florida, but could boost their bowl game with another win this weekend, should there be a game scheduled.
