Kirby Smart provides update on Georgia QB D’Wan Mathis

Georgia freshman quarterback D’wan Mathis underwent surgery in Athens last week for a discovered brain cyst at Piedmont Regional Hospital.

The former four-star recruit tweeted out to fans Monday evening that he is getting better and recovering while thanking them for their support.

Tuesday, at the SEC’s annual meetings in Destin, Florida, Coach Kirby Smart provided an update on Mathis and his surgery.

Mathis went 15/28 in the G-Day game this spring for his first outing in front of the Bulldog faithful. Georgia opens its season on the road at Vanderbilt on August 31st which is followed by two cupcake opponents in Arkansas State and Murray State, so easing the freshman into things should not be a problem.

As for right now, it’s all about recovery.
