Kirby Smart on 2019 team: “We all have strengths and weaknesses”

Recently, Coach Kirby Smart appeared on the Paul Finebaum show to discuss the upcoming 2019 Georgia football season and his expectations for the Bulldogs.

At one point in the interview, Finebaum quoted an anonymous college football insider who said, “I don’t see a weakness on the Georgia football team.”

In response, Smart said, “That’s a setup…I don’t think that’s the case. I think we all have strengths and weaknesses…there’s not enough separation in the SEC that it’s going to be talent alone that dictates [a team’s success].”

It would certainly be easy for the man in charge of a team with Georgia’s talent level to be complacent. The Dawgs have the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation for 2019 and are coming off back-to-back double-digit win seasons. However, as Smart and all Bulldog fans know, the talent on paper doesn’t mean anything until you go prove it on the field.

With a 9-4 overall record against rivals in his first three seasons at Georgia and a perfect 4-0 slate last season, Smart has shown that he can coach against the program’s biggest rivals.

There may not appear to be any flashing weaknesses for the 2019 Georgia Bulldogs on paper but more complicated obstacles like getting over the Alabama hump and beating an SEC West team on the road still linger.
