Kirby Smart not pleased with Georgia football defense despite impressive performance

On Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs shut out the Kentucky Wildcats en route to a 21-0 victory. The game was understandably highlighted by the Georgia defense, which did not allow a completed pass until the fourth quarter and is the only team in college football that has yet to give up a rushing touchdown.

Despite this, however, head coach Kirby Smart is still not satisfied with where the unit is.

Smart told reporters after practice that he wants to see more from his defense.

“When you watch that tape, there’s a lot more concern.”

“Tackling, gap fits, if you went to a coach and said ‘watch this game,’ they would come in and say, ‘that is atrocious, tackling, fits, eye discipline, leverage, blockers.’

“But walking around, whistling by the graveyard that everything is fine and we’re just OK, and we’ve got good defensive numbers, and that’s not the case when you watch the true integrity of it.”

If this defense still has room to grow as Smart claims, then future opposing offenses must be shaking in their boots.
