Kirby Smart deserves credit for UGA football making CFP

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart has been heavily criticized following UGA’s 41-24 SEC Championship loss to Nick Saban and Alabama.

Smart and Georgia were outclassed in the SEC Championship thanks to Alabama’s numerous big plays. Georgia made mistakes. Bryce Young and Alabama played arguably their best game of the season.

Georgia’s first loss of the season was disappointing, but Kirby Smart and Georgia are in a position to make the College Football Playoff. The Dawgs had their chance to possibly knock Alabama out of the CFP, but that will have to wait.

For now, Georgia fans should be happy that Kirby Smart was able to successfully navigate the Dawgs’ schedule and finish the regular season 12-0. In the past, has Georgia entered the SEC Championship with one loss? The Bulldogs could not afford to lose in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Georgia’s SEC Championship defeat will give the Dawgs a tougher path to the National Championship, but it is much better than not making the CFP.

Georgia’s loss will help refocus the Bulldogs. Georgia could face Alabama again. Will Kirby Smart make a change at starting quarterback?

He will have to find a way to generate more pressure on Bryce Young if the Bulldogs play the Crimson Tide again. Georgia has three weeks to improve ahead of the CFP semifinals. The Dawgs still have a lot of football left to be played.

Let’s just be thankful that UGA has another game with National Championship implications. That was not the case in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
