Kion Etete among youngsters involved, injury boost - 5 things spotted in Tottenham training

Doherty returns

Matt Doherty was back on the training pitch at Hotspur Way on Wednesday afternoon ahead of this week's Premier League game against Everton.

Dropped from the squad at Aston Villa just before last month's international break, the right-back returned early from the Republic of Ireland camp after picking up an injury in their shock 1-0 defeat against Luxembourg.

Ruled out of the recent games against Newcastle and Manchester United because of the problem, the 29-year-old could potentially return to the matchday squad at Goodison Park on Friday night if he is deemed fit enough following his return to training.

Jose Mourinho on not being upset, Paul Pogba and pundits

Jose Mourinho will be previewing the Everton match on Thursday afternoon and he will give an update on Doherty and the rest of the Tottenham squad ahead of the trip to Merseyside.

Youngsters involved

Mourinho has always included a number of youngsters in first-team training at the club's Enfield base.

Japhet Tanganga, Troy Parrott, Dennis Cirkin and Harvey White were all regulars last season, with Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine spotted regularly this campaign after making a huge impression on the boss.

Well, a further seven youngsters were spotted amongst the first team on Wednesday afternoon when the latest batch of training photos were released.

Young striker Kion Etete was one of those as he gathered around Mourinho for a quick chat with the likes of George Marsh, Jamie Bowden, J'Neil Bennett and Brooklyn Lyons-Foster.

Striker Rodel Richards was also spotted doing some sprints and midfielder Elliot Thorpe could be seen giving Davinson Sanchez a fist bump.

Criticised by many in the past for not giving young players a go, the same cannot be said about Mourinho this term as he has given plenty of academy stars their senior bows.

The seven youngsters in training will be hoping their opportunity in the first team comes sooner rather than later.

Kane's fresh trim

This week we have seen long queues outside barbers all across the country with restrictions in the UK eased slightly.

Following the decision to go back into lockdown at the turn of the year, everyone has had to wait just over three months to get a fresh trim.

In that period plenty of fans have picked up on the length of Harry Kane's hair, but there will now be no more comments about his hairstyle as he was seen on the training pitch with a rather slick haircut.

The Spurs striker was quite clearly intent on getting a new look as soon as the barbers opened back up for business.

Sonny all smiles

Son Heung-min looked absolutely devastated on Sunday evening when speaking on camera about the 3-1 defeat against Manchester United.

A goalscorer on the day with a close-range finish from Lucas Moura's pass, the player was also in the headlines after Edinson Cavani's opener was ruled out after Scott McTominay had caught the South Korean in the face.

The player was allegedly subjected to racist abuse on social media after the game and Spurs released a statement condemning "abhorrent" messages directed at their player.

Back on the training pitch this week ahead of the game at Everton, the 28-year-old looked more like his old self as he was all smiles amongst his teammates.

Given the difficulty of watching him during that post-match interview on Sunday, it was definitely good to see him smiling once again.

Young keeper involved again

Hugo Lloris currently has a new goalkeeper working alongside him following Alfie Whiteman's injury.

As the academy ace is not expected to return to training until May after undergoing surgery on his left knee, fellow shot-stopper Joshua Oluwayemi has instead taken his place on the training pitch.

The 20-year-old has temporarily jumped up to third choice as a result with Paulo Gazzaniga and Brandon Austin both away from the club on loan at present.

Definitely a good experience for the player working alongside Lloris and Joe Hart day in, day out, he will be hoping to take his chance and remain with the goalkeepers once Whiteman is back to fitness.
