Kinoshita Circus kicked off its three-month-long show on Saturday at a site specially set up near JR Osaka Station, dazzling spectators with performances featuring aerial bars and white lions, among other acts.
The troupe is performing near Osaka Station for the first time in 20 years. To mark the show's opening, a ceremony was held in which local nursery school children presented flowers to circus members before Takeshi Mizoguchi, president of The Yomiuri Shimbun, Osaka, and other guests cut a ribbon. The Yomiuri Shimbun, Yomiuri Telecasting Corp. and The Hochi Shimbun are among the organizers of the show.
The Osaka show will run through March 11, with no performances held on Thursdays (except for Jan. 3), Dec. 12, New Year's Eve, Jan. 9 and Feb. 20. Advanced tickets for non-reserved seats cost 2,900 yen for high school students and older, and 1,900 yen for children aged 3 to junior high school students. An additional 400 yen is required for same-day tickets.
