Kino Lorber Acquires North American Rights To Sci-Fi Satire

Kino Lorber secures North American distribution rights for 'The Empire.'

Kino Lorber has secured the North American distribution rights for Bruno Dumont's latest film, 'The Empire,' a sci-fi satire featuring a talented cast including Anamaria Vartolomei, Camille Cottin, Lyna Khoudri, and Fabrice Luchini. The movie recently premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, where it received the prestigious Silver Bear Jury Prize. Following Dumont's acclaimed work on 'France,' 'The Empire' explores a unique narrative set in a serene fishing village in Northern France.

The storyline revolves around the birth of a special child, triggering a cosmic battle between extraterrestrial forces of good and evil, represented by One and Zero. This clash leads to an apocalyptic conflict on Earth, offering viewers a visually stunning and intellectually engaging cinematic experience.

Kino Lorber, known for its collaboration with Dumont on previous projects such as 'Li'l Quinquin' and 'Camille Claudel 1915,' expressed excitement about bringing 'The Empire' to American audiences. The company plans to release the film theatrically later this year, followed by availability on various digital platforms.

The acquisition of 'The Empire' marks Kino Lorber's continued commitment to showcasing innovative and thought-provoking cinema. The film's distribution rights have also been secured in several other countries, reflecting its global appeal and anticipation among international audiences.

In addition to 'The Empire,' Kino Lorber has recently acquired other notable titles like 'Sebastian' and announced the merger of MHz Choice and Topic, further expanding its diverse content offerings. The company's 2023 lineup includes 'Four Daughters' by Kaouther Ben Hania, a documentary nominated for an Oscar, underscoring Kino Lorber's dedication to supporting impactful storytelling.

With 'The Empire' poised to captivate viewers with its imaginative narrative and visual spectacle, Kino Lorber continues to solidify its position as a leading distributor of independent and boundary-pushing cinema.
