Kinnoull target fast start on home soil as Preston Athletic make Perth trip

Kinnoull manager Alan Cameron is targeting a fast start on home soil.

Football returns to Tulloch Park tomorrow as the Perth side begin their Conference B campaign against Preston Athletic.

Kinnoull had made a solid start to the season last term before the season was called short because of coronavirus.

“We had a reasonable enough start to last season,” Cameron said.

“We’ve got to kick on and have a wee bit more consistency. We’ll be trying to get points on the board early doors – which isn’t easy.

“We know a wee bit about Preston and played them on the opening day down there.

“They have a good manager who is well thought of. He has a good, young side that have now been together a couple of years. But I’m more concerned about what we do on the day.

“If we turn up and play to our capabilities, I’d be hopeful that we’ll be keeping the points in Perth.

“It will be a late selection with who is available but hopefully I should have 15 or 16 to choose from.”

On the squad front, Robbie Irons has joined the club, while Fraser Wilson and Darren Kelly have returned. Jamie Mackenzie, who spent time at Jeanfield Swifts, is signed up for the season ahead.

Cameron reckons full squads will need to be utilised this year as COVID-19 continues to have an impact on plans.

“It has been a long time coming and, the same as everyone else, there have been major disruptions along the way,” Cameron said ahead of tomorrow’s tussle.

“We’re all in the same boat so we need to get on with it and do the best we can.

“I think every team will be interrupted and will not have full squads available all the time.

“It has been a weird pre-season because we’ve not been able to go ahead with everything that we wanted.

“Games have been called off and you might not have had the numbers available to do what you wanted to work on. It has been a bit disjointed but we’re all the same.”
