The 2019-20 Championship season begins in just over two weeks, and it’s set to be a special one for Leeds United .
With the club set to celebrate their 100th birthday in October, there are plans afoot for the whole centenary season, but little has officially been announced as of yet.
Supporters got a first taste of what to expect in the new campaign when the club revealed the kit for the new season featuring a tweaking of the Leeds United club featuring a “100 years” ribbon at the bottom.
Speaking at an event in front of supports in Perth, managing director Angus Kinnear said what fans can expect from marquee signing Helder Costa, whilst giving an update on Kalvin Phillips’ contract negotiations, before hinting at the plans for the centenary season.
“There’s lots of events through the season to mark the hundred years,” he said.
“We’ve got lots of legends coming back, lots of events in and around the club but the real thing we’re doing in our hundredth year is to create a platform for the next 100 years.
“There’s two ways we can do that; one is around the infrastructure of the club, so we’re hoping to announce some new plans regarding moving the training ground back to the city centre, a community sports hub around Elland Road.
“But the biggest thing is getting Leeds promoted, back to where we belong.”
Leeds United’s 100th birthday is on Thursday 17th October this year. Two days later, Marcelo Bielsa’s side are due to take on Birmingham City at Elland Road, with celebration events likely to take place that weekend.
