Kingswood woman left 'fuming' after refuse workers won't take black bin

A woman from Kingswood has been left "absolutely fuming" after her bin workers refused to collect her recycling.

Nicola Hays claims the workers refused to take her recycling because there was hard plastic in her recycling bin and instead of taking it, they moved it to her black bin.

As a result her black bin got too full so the workers then refused to take the bin at all.

Nicola claims that the recycling waste has been left since Tuesday (July 28) and as a result is now a health hazard because flies and maggots are surrounding the bins.

She is angry because the workers put the hard plastic into her already full black bin instead of leaving it on the floor or in her recycling bin.

The bin before the workers put the hard plastic in (Nicola Hays)

Nicola told Bristol Live: "Absolutely fuming, my recycling team are so bad. They took some plastic items out of my recycling because they wouldn't take them due to being hard plastic and put them in my black bin making my bin lid wide open.

"So then the binmen left a note saying they refused to take my bin because the lid wasn't shut.

"Rang the council to be told that the recycling team wouldn't have done that. Really... then who did it?

"Who went through my recycling and moved the items into my bin. Basically been called a liar by the council."

Because Nicola's black bin was left open because of the additional hard plastic not being collected, flies and maggots have gathered around her bins.

She said: "My bin is now a health hazard with flies and it's hot so by another two weeks will be worse.

Talking on Friday (July 31) Nicola said the council still had not collected the hard plastic, four days after the bin workers initially refused to collect the waste.

She said: "I have flies all over the bin and despite being told that someone from the waste team would call me, nobody has.

"I've also emailed a complaint on Tuesday (July 28) but yet to receive a reply.

"The lady called Claire on the phone said the recycling people would not have done that, it must have been someone else, implying that I'm stupid enough to have over filled the bin and blamed someone else or that one of my neighbours maybe did it... ridiculous."

South Gloucestershire Council response

Nicola now says that she has received an apology from the waste team and they have promised they will now empty the bin in response to the complaint.

South Gloucestershire Council was contcted for comment over the weekend, but have not responded.
