Kingston Park man allegedly left male needing stiches to face after suspected glassing

A man has appeared in court accused of leaving a male in need of stitches to his face after a suspected glass attack.

Ryan Boldra allegedly assaulted the victim at an address in Marley Court, in Kenton, Newcastle, on October 9 2021. The 27-year-old was suspected of using a wine glass to strike the man in the face, leaving him needing hospital treatment.

Newcastle Magistrates' Court heard that the alleged victim required stitches to cuts to his face, as well as suffering a black eye and injuries to his hand. He has since recovered.

Boldra, of Abingdon Court, in Kingston Park, Newcastle, was in the dock this week to face an allegation of wounding without intent. During the brief hearing he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address and to say his was withholding his plea to the charge.

Prosecutor, Laura Croft, said the case was unsuitable to stay in the magistrates' court. She added: "This is a section 20 wounding offence, which allegedly takes place on October 9 2021, so it's of some age. The Crown's submission is that it's a wounding offence with a weapon where the defendant has allegedly glassed the complainant."

Magistrates declined jurisdiction and the case sent to Newcastle Crown Court. Boldra was released on unconditional bail to next appear there on May 10.
