The Kingston Library will be closed to the public next week for refurbishment works.
The library will be temporarily closed from Monday, September 23 to Sunday, September 29.
The timber floor will be sanded and resealed.
Despite some letter writers complaining about what they say is a paucity of good books at the library, a government spokesman said the shutdown was only for the floor work, not to restock the shelves.
The Kingston Library opened in 2009, three years after the controversial closure of the Griffith Library.
"We are asking to community to visit other libraries during the closure. The closest libraries are in Civic or Woden. The Kingston return chute will be closed, books can be returned at other ACT libraries," a government statement said.
"During this period, the ACT Heritage Library at 255 Canberra Avenue Fyshwick will be open for the pick-up of requests that would normally be held at Kingston as well as item returns, from 9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm on Saturday."
