Kingston crane incident: Residents evacuated after crane partially collapses amid high winds in south west London

A crane has partially collapsed amid high winds in south west London.

Police said they were called to Fassett Road, Kingston, just after 4pm on Tuesday to reports of a crane collapsing on a building site.

Several local residents were evacuated as a precaution and road closures were in place. There are no reported injuries.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed that they were at the scene of the incident.

They said: "We were called at 16.15 to reports of a tower crane collapsing into a building under construction on Beaufort Road.

Police were called shortly after 16:00hrs on Tuesday, 10 December to reports of a partially collapsed crane on a building site on Fassett Rd #Kingston
Emergency services on the scene, nobody believed injured.
A number of local residents have been evacuated as a precaution.

"Two fire engines and two fire rescue units attended."

The building site on which the crane is located is not part of the Kingston University Penrhyn Road Campus development.

In May, thousands of residents were evacuated from the area after the unexploded device was discovered nearby.

During that incident, Kingston University was evacuated and local schools were also cleared as Scotland Yard called in experts from the Ministry of Defence to examine the bomb.
