Kingston Bridge to close for urgent repairs today as flooding causes major delays on the roads

The Kingston Bridge is set to close for urgent repairs this evening.

Work on the emergency barrier was hoped to begin at 3pm but has been pushed back until 6pm and will last for around 45 minutes.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area if possible with tailbacks expected as work is carried out.

Heavy rain is also causing flooding on the roads with one motorist saying the M77 and M8 are like car parks due to the conditions.

Elsewhere on the roads, flooding has caused M8 Junction 25 onslip eastbound causing delays. Congestion has also been reported on M77 northbound J2 to M8, M8 eastbound J26 to J18, M8 westbound J15 to J16 and A814 eastbound SEC to M8 at J19.

In the south side, a woman had to be rescued from her car after getting stuck in flooding on Minard Road.

Rainfall has already flooded the railway between Dalmuir and Clydebank, with the line forced to close today between Dalmuir - Hyndland via Yoker.

An emergency speed restriction of 40mph is in place between Bowling and Westerton due to the severe weather.

In East Kilbride, Calderwood Road has been completely closed due to flooding with fire engines on the scene.
