Matthew Vaughn’s hit spy adventure Kingsman: The Secret Service will reportedly be getting a sequel, according to TheWrap.
Sources close to the project have shared that a follow-up is in development but with no talent yet confirmed. The first film starred Colin Firth as a dapper 007-esque agent who becomes a mentor to Taron Egerton’s unrefined youth.
The film recently crossed the $400m barrier worldwide from an $81m budget. It’s been a particular hit in South Korea where it’s currently the biggest film of the year so far, having made over $45m.
While doing press for Kingsman, Vaughn briefly spoke about the possibility of a sequel but if you’ve yet to see the first film, there are spoilers in the following quotes.
Colin Firth’s character was killed off at the end of Kingsman but Vaughn has already thought about the possibility of bringing him back.
“A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel,” he told USA Today, “but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.
“The opening of Kingsman 2 will have a sauna and the sauna door opens and out comes Colin. It was all a dream!”
If Vaughn returns to the director’s chair, the schedule might be affected by news that he is in talks to reboot Flash Gordon.
