King’s support for British Asian Trust hailed as ‘very important’ after unrest

  • King Charles attended the British Asian Trust ’s annual gala dinner in London, marking the start of celebrations for its 20th anniversary in 2027.
  • Actress and writer Dame Meera Syal highlighted the importance of the King's continued patronage, especially following recent unrest over the murder of Henry Nowak by a Sikh man.
  • Dame Meera stated that the King's enduring support for the Trust, which he co-founded in 2007, is considered "very special" given his increased duties as monarch.
  • The British Asian Trust, co-founded by Charles as Prince of Wales, runs programmes across India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, focusing on mental health, education, child protection and conservation.
  • Lord Jitesh Gadhia, the Trust's chairman, noted that the organisation has positively impacted 18.8 million people across South Asia in its 19 years.
