Those mid-week post-work trips to the South Coast this summer might need re-scheduling because from October 12, the Kings Highway will be closed in both directions from 6pm to 6am Monday to Thursdays.
Transport for NSW is closing the major route for essential maintenance work on Clyde Mountain, including slope stabilisation after the area's recent rainfall.
The highway will close overnight to all traffic Monday to Thursday for about three weeks from October 12.
Expect delays at other times, too, because other work will be carried out during the day.
At times during the day, traffic control measures, lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place on sections of the Clyde Mountain. Delays of up to 10 minutes can be expected.
Fortunately, the highway will be open from noon on Fridays until 6am on Mondays to allow for weekend traffic.
When the highway closes, access for light vehicles and passenger cars from the ACT to the South Coast will be via Nerriga Road, which Transport NSW says could add up to 75 minutes to journeys.
Travellers to the South Coast may also see tree removal along sections of the Princes Highway this summer.
Burning and falling trees closed sections of the roadway last summer and an assessment has been made to reduce this risk and make the highway more bushfire-resilient.
