Kings coach Luke Walton gets good news and more bad news on the injury front

Kings coach Luke Walton got good news and more bad news on the injury front.

The good news: Marvin Bagley III was a full participant in practice Sunday and is expected to return when the Kings (15-24) play host to the Orlando Magic (18-21) on Monday night at Golden 1 Center. The bad news: Richaun Holmes will be out at least two more weeks with a shoulder injury.

Holmes missed the past two games after straining his right shoulder in a win over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. An MRI revealed that Holmes has an injury to his right shoulder joint, the team said. He will be reevaluated in two to three weeks.

The Kings will miss Holmes' energy, athleticism, offensive efficiency and defensive presence. He is averaging 13.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.4 blocked shots and 1.1 steals.

"It's another hit, but it's kind of been one of the main themes all year _ next guy up," Walton said. "Richaun has been one of our most consistent, solid players all year, so by committee we've got to pick up all that we're going to lose by not having him out there."

De'Aaron Fox, Bagley, Bogdan Bogdanovic and now Holmes have all missed significant time due to injuries this season. Fox is healthy and appears to be returning to form after missing 17 games with a severely sprained ankle, but Walton hasn't had a full complement of players since opening night.

Bogdanovic went through some light shooting drills after practice Sunday, but he did not participate in practice and will not play against Orlando, Walton said. Bogdanovic is averaging 14.5 points, 3.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds for the Kings.

Bogdanovic has missed nine games with assorted injuries. He missed three games in December due to a hamstring injury, returned for five games and then went back to the injured list with right ankle soreness.

"I just wait to see what the medical staff says," Walton said. "(Bogdanovic) tells me he's feeling better and just the way he's walking around and doing stuff in the weight room (shows improvement), but as far as on-the-court stuff the most he's done is stationary shooting, which to me doesn't really indicate that you're ready to play."

Bagley has missed the past eight games with a sprained foot. He previously missed 22 games with a broken thumb. Bagley has appeared in only nine of Sacramento's 39 games, averaging 13.7 points and 6.9 rebounds.

Walton said Bagley appears to be ready to play after going through a full practice Sunday.

"He looked really good running up and down the court, so I would expect him to be ready to go for tomorrow," Walton said.

Walton also expects Nemanja Bjelica and Harrison Barnes to play Monday. Barnes hurt his right leg in the fourth quarter of Friday's 127-106 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. He left the game with 3:02 remaining and appeared to be in considerable discomfort as he limped off the floor, but Walton said he participated in most of Sunday's practice and should be able to play against Orlando.

Bjelica played through pain against Milwaukee after spraining his ankle last week against Phoenix. He was held out of Sunday's practice but will likely play Monday, Walton said.

"(Bjelica) didn't do any practice today, but he played 40 minutes on it last game and it didn't get worse," Walton said. "We kept him off his feet today, but I would expect him to play (Monday)."

Cory Joseph also missed practice Sunday while recovering from an illness.

"His fever spiked again last night," Walton said. "Knowing Cory, he'll play tomorrow, but we kept him at home today."
