Patrick Barkham (Notebook, 31 March) would be very welcome to launch his canoe from the bottom of our garden, into Lime Kiln Dyke, when he’s next in the Norfolk Broads. If he were to paddle off to the right (I’m sorry it’s not the left, but nothing’s perfect) he could tie up for free at the public staithe in Neatishead village, stop off for a coffee and freshly baked cake at the thriving community-owned and run White House stores, and then sink a pint and delicious lunch in the beautifully restored White Horse Inn. If he had time, he could visit the award-winning eco New Victory Hall before canoeing back to ours (as we say in Norfolk) for a glass of wine and some kingfisher-spotting. What he would not encounter here, throughout his day, are any “private” or “keep out” notices.
