King who gave up throne to marry young Russian beauty queen divorces after a year

The fairy tale marriage of a Malaysian ex-king to a Russian beauty queen half his age has ended after a year, according to reports.

Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan, right, controversially gave up his throne to wed ex-Miss Moscow Rihana Oksana Voevodina, dubbed the Russian Cinderella, last November.

But the 49-year-old monarch and his young bride, 27, have divorced six months after the union rocked Malaysian high society, the New Straits Times reports.

The divorce was registered in Singapore on July 1 with a certificate bearing the Kelantan state crest and marked as the wife’s copy.

It indicates the divorce was done through the utterance of the word “talak” three times – the most severe and irreversible form of divorce in Islam.

The London-educated Sultan abdicated early this year after revealing photos and lurid sex claims surfaced about his wife’s past as a reality TV show star in her homeland.

Oksana confirmed the birth of a son in May, the first child of her royal husband Muhammad.

Posting a photograph on social media, she said: “This love is special.

“These feelings are completely new. I am grateful to Allah and my husband for our son. Now there are three of us.”
