King Vajiralongkorn leads merit-making for Rama IX

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun presided over the merit-making ceremonies marking one year since the passing of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the Grand Palace on Friday evening.

His Majesty the King arrived for the ceremony at 5pm, which was televised live via all Thai television channels and numerous internet channels.

He was accompanied by members of the royal family at the religious ceremony held in the Dusit Maha Prasart Thone Hall.

Thirty monks chanted prayers, after which one monk gave a sermon. His Majesty presented robes to the monks.

Cabinet ministers, privy councillors, diplomats and senior government officials also attended the merit-making ceremony.

The ceremony ended at 6.45pm.

His Majesty the King will also attend another merit-making ceremony at 10.30am on Saturday at the Grand Palace.

In Bangkok and all provinces across the country, crowds of people attended merit-making ceremonies at temples and government venues to mark the first anniversary of the passing of King Bhumibol.
