King Salman Receives Gulf Leaders Ahead of 39th GCC Summit

The leaders and the accompanying delegations of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Arab States started arriving in Riyadh on Sunday.

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz received the heads of the UAE, Bahraini and Omani delegations ahead of the 39th GCC summit being hosted in Riyadh.

The annual summit is set to highlight regional unity and issues related to the GCC in several fields.

Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, the Secretary General of the GCC, affirmed the importance of the summit under the chairmanship of King Salman.

In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the secretary general added that the meetings of the GCC leaders reflect their keenness to consolidate the council, pointing out its achievements in various political, security, defense and economic fields.

Citing the importance of the GCC joint market and customs union, Zayani asserted that the economic integration and cooperation among these states makes their leaders keen to attend the summit due to the important benefits it will reap for the economy.

The last GCC summit was held in Kuwait on December 5, 2017, in which the Kuwait Declaration was issued where leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of the council and its march towards preserving its gains and achieving the aspirations of its citizens.
