Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz ordered on Wednesday tighter measures to contain the new coronavirus outbreak in Saudi Arabia, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

Out of his keenness on the safety of citizens and residents and based on recommendations from relevant authorities, he ordered curfew to start at 3 pm in Riyadh and Makkah, starting Thursday.

He also ordered lockdowns in Riyadh, Makkah and Madinah and banned leaving and circulation between the Kingdom's 13 regions.

The health ministry reported 133 new virus cases on Wednesday, bringing the total to 900. It also registered the second death from the disease, while 29 overall have recovered.

Saudi Arabia had first declared the 21-day curfew on Monday.

Violators will be fined 10,000 riyals and it will be doubled for repeat offenders.
