More than 1.2 million people visited the winter festival initiated by His Majesty the King, which came to a close at the Royal Plaza on Sunday.

Organisers of the Aun Ai Rak Khlai Khwam Nao expo on Monday reported that 1.26 million visitors had passed through the gate in the 32 days since it opened on Feb 8.

The last day was one of the most popular with 115,979 people at the fair.  Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was there too.

Aun Ai Rak Khlai Khwam Nao promoted Thai traditional costumes and local products and showcased exhibitions on the late King Bhumibol and King Chulalongkorn.

"The party is over, but Aun Ai Rak Khlai Khwam Nao stays in the hearts forever," the organisers said on the Facebook account, and promised it will return next year.

"Don't feel sorry for anybody missing out on the event this year. Aun Ai Rak will definitely come back next year," the announcement said.
