King's Theatre staff light up sky with 'Bat-signal' in touching tribute to Andy Gray

The King's Theatre was lit up this evening in a touching tribute to the late Andy Gray.

A huge Batman fan, staff organised a 'bat-signal' to be beamed onto the theatre where the 61-year-old performed almost every year.

The signal was seen on the front of the building, as well as in a few other locations around Edinburgh.

Tributes poured in earlier this year after the news broke that Gray had sadly passed away after catching coronavirus.

The actor and comedian had been confirmed to have also been receiving treatment for a rare type of blood cancer called Myelodysplastic syndrome.

Described as one of the "kindest people" by Steve Carson, director of BBC Scotland, Gray sadly passed away on January 18 of this year, with many left devastated at the news.

The Perth-born star was widely loved in Edinburgh as well as in Glasgow, for his role in River City.

Currently, the King's Theatre is closed due to coronavirus restrictions, and has been since the start of the pandemic in March last year.

After appealing on multiple occasions for further funding to survive, the Capital Theatres Group in Edinburgh was awarded a £500,000 grant in October.
