King of Sweden Announces Name, Title of Royal Family’s Smallest Member

At a special cabinet meeting, King Carl XVI Gustaf has announced the name and title of his granddaughter, the smallest member of the royal family. He said she has been named Adrienne Josephine Alice, and given the title Duchess of Blekinge.

The small princess was born on Friday. She is the third child of Princess Madeleine and her husband, Christopher O’Neill. The royal couple already have Princess Leonore, 4, and Prince Nicolas, 2.

The German-born Princess Madeleine is the youngest daughter of the Swedish King and his wife Queen Silvia, the German News Agency reported.

It is worth noting that the newborn princess is the seventh grandchild of the King and Queen, and the tenth in line to the throne.

O’Neill is an American-British businessman, who lives away from the royal spotlights, and rejected an official royal title after his marriage in June 2013.

In 1980, Sweden changed the order of throne succession, so the biggest child can rule regardless of the gender.
