In December, Melbourne seven–piece King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard will play a major tour across Australia’s east coast. What started out in 2011 as a side project, with a jokey title, has become an unlikely success story – with a truly memorable name.
The band have now played Glastonbury festival, sung about Vegemite and released seven albums of such variety that they’ve earned their title as psych-soul-surf-fuzz-garage-space-rock-jazz-DIY shamans.
Their latest album, Paper Mâché Dream Balloon was recorded using only acoustic instruments, resulting in a lilting pop masterpiece that is more communal than their previous neo-psychedelic work.
