The King has formally removed Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s prince title and his HRH style.
Charles officially stripped the title of ‘Prince’ from his brother by issuing a Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm a week after the changes was dramatically announced.
The King’s decision to banish his brother from the monarchy and remove his birthright to be a prince, as well as his dukedom, came amid growing pressure about his relationship with convicted paedophile and financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew has been dogged by allegations that he sexually abused Virginia Giuffre after she was trafficked by Epstein, and his links to the late paedophile have tainted the reputation of the royal family.
He has strenuously denied the allegations.
An entry in The Gazette, the UK’s official public record, by the Crown Office, was published on Wednesday. It read: “THE KING has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 3 November 2025 to declare that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor shall no longer be entitled to hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of ‘Royal Highness’ and the titular dignity of ‘Prince’.”
Another entry confirmed the removal of Andrew from the Roll of Peerage as the Duke of York, as previously announced.
It read: “THE KING has been pleased by Warrant under His Royal Sign Manual dated 30 October 2025 to direct His Secretary of State to cause the Duke of York to be removed from the Roll of the Peerage with immediate effect.”
This week, a former top prosecutor called for the Metropolitan Police to reopen a probe into allegations disgraced Andrew sexually abused Ms Giuffre.
Scotland Yard probed allegations relating to Andrew and Epstein’s activities three times and opted not to investigate.
But the force said it is “actively looking” into claims that the royal tried to use his taxpayer-funded bodyguard to smear his accuser Ms Giuffre.
It was claimed last month that Andrew had asked his Met Police bodyguard to investigate Ms Giuffre and passed over confidential information about her.
An email obtained by the Mail on Sunday exposed that Andrew handed over Ms Giuffre’s date of birth and social security number to be investigated.
Further questions were also raised recently about when Andrew ended his friendship with Epstein, as an email revealed the pair had been in contact 12 weeks after the royal was said to have cut contact with the paedophile.
Meanwhile, the eyes of the world continue to be fixed on the Royal Lodge after the news Andrew is quitting the 30-room home in Windsor for private accommodation on the King’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
Royal experts has speculated whether Andrew may move abroad after being stripped of his titles and removed from the lodge.
According to historian Andrew Lownie, author of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York: “He would be happy living somewhere where the media is muzzled, where he will still be treated as a senior royal and where he can easily live under the radar.
“His personal relationships with young women are not likely to be scrutinised in Abu Dhabi.”
Another expert on the disgraced Royal, Royal biographer Andrew Morton told Times Radio: “I would predict that, if we’re speaking about this time next year, Andrew will probably live somewhere abroad.”
