King Charles told Prince Harry 'not to bring Meghan to Balmoral' when the Queen died

King Charles told Prince Harry not to bring wife Meghan Markle to Balmoral on the day the Queen died, according to a bombshell new book.

The Duke of Sussex's controversial memoir Spare is released next week, but has been leaked days early after going on sale in Spain.

He claims in reaction he told the now-monarch: "Don't ever speak about my wife that way."

Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, were in London during a mini-Euro tour when Elizabeth II died in September at her beloved Scottish retreat.

The Sussexes stepped down as working royals in March 2020 before relocating to the US that summer.

Their relationship with the rest of the Firm has become increasingly more fractured since, particularly after their interview with Oprah Winfrey in March last year.

During the chat, filmed in California, they made damaging allegations about the royals, including that racist comments were made about their then-unborn son Archie.

Harry suggests he only found out his grandmother had died by checking the BBC website.

In his book, the release of which was delayed due to the longstanding monarch's death, he also reveals how Princess Anne led him upstairs to "Granny's bedroom" to pay his respects.

He lamented the fact he never got to see his mum, Princess Diana, after she died in a car crash in 1997 when he was just 12.

Elsewhere in the book, he alleges brother Prince William physically attacked him during a row about Meghan which left Harry with back injuries.

He claims his older sibling came to see him at his former home Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

Harry suggests the Prince of Wales had arranged to speak to him about "the whole rolling catastrophe" of their relationship and press issues.

But on arrival he was already "piping hot" and ended up throwing his brother to the ground, smashing a dog bowl which cut Harry's back.

Harry also addresses rumours that Major James Hewitt is his real dad, talks about his past drug use and recounts the time he lost his virginity behind a pub in the book.
