King Charles Shares Touching Tribute 20 Years On From London Bombings

It’s been two decades since the devastating 7/7 bombings shook London to its core, and King Charles has issued a heartfelt message to mark the sombre anniversary.

In a rare and moving statement shared by Buckingham Palace on Monday, the monarch reflected on the pain that still lingers and paid tribute to those who lost their lives, as well as the courage of everyday people who stepped up in the face of terror.

“Today, as we mark twenty years since the tragic events of 7th July 2005, my heartfelt thoughts and special prayers remain with all those whose lives were forever changed on that terrible Summer’s day,” the King said.

The coordinated suicide bombings hit London’s transport network during the busy morning rush hour, killing 52 innocent people and injuring more than 770 others. Four terrorists targeted three Tube trains and a bus, leaving devastation in their wake and sending shockwaves across the UK and beyond.

Charles didn’t shy away from the raw emotion still felt by many, acknowledging both the lives lost and the enduring grief left behind.

“We remember with profound sadness the 52 innocent people who were killed in senseless acts of evil – and the enduring grief of their loved ones,” he said.

But his words weren’t only for the fallen. He also offered his compassion to the many survivors who still carry both physical and emotional scars from that awful day.

“We recall, too, the hundreds more who carry physical and psychological scars, and pray that their suffering may ease as the years pass,” the King added.

He went on to salute the bravery of those who responded in the immediate aftermath — from emergency workers to fellow commuters — highlighting their selflessness as a powerful reminder of humanity’s strength in the darkest moments.

“The selfless bravery of our emergency services, transport workers, and fellow citizens who rushed towards danger to help strangers reminds us of the very best of humanity in the face of the very worst.”

Though the horrors of that day will always remain etched in the nation’s memory, Charles encouraged people to take heart from the unity that followed — the way Londoners and people across the UK came together in defiance of hate.

“It is this spirit of unity that has helped London, and our nation, to heal.”

He rounded off his message with a powerful call to stand together, urging that this anniversary be more than just a moment of reflection, but also a commitment to peace and inclusion.

“[Let us] reaffirm our commitment to building a society where people of all faiths and backgrounds can live together with mutual respect and understanding, always standing firm against those who would seek to divide us.”

The King’s tribute comes at a time when he’s been scaling back public appearances due to ongoing cancer treatment. Palace insiders have assured the public that he’s responding well and remains in good spirits.

As the country remembers the events of 7 July 2005, Charles’ words serve as a poignant reminder of loss, resilience, and the unbreakable bond shared in times of hardship.
