King Charles Has Finally Stripped Andrew Of His Title & Booted Him From The Residence

Prince Andrew has officially been told to pack his bags — he’s leaving Royal Lodge and handing back his royal titles after a fresh move from Buckingham Palace.

Let’s cut through the royal drama and break down what’s happening, what’s changing, and why.

What’s actually happened?

Buckingham Palace announced that Andrew’s time as “Prince” is done. In a move led by King Charles, the palace started a “formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew”. That means Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor — no “His Royal Highness”, no “Duke of York” on the invitations.

Royal Lodge, Andrew’s long-term Windsor address, no longer belongs to him, either. The Palace said: “His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.”

Reports say the new spot will be one of the private homes on Sandringham Estate, owned by King Charles, and the rent will be handled privately — not out of the public purse.

Why is this happening?

This comes after years of controversy around Andrew’s relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Palace was blunt: “These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him”. While Andrew has always denied all accusations, it seems Buckingham Palace is now saying that there have been serious lapses of judgment.

The official statement made it clear where the Palace stands on the broader issue, saying: “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

What happens next?

Andrew’s move out of Royal Lodge is happening “as soon as practicable”, per The Guardian. His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, is also leaving and will have to sort her own accommodation. 9News understands that Andrew’s future accomodation will be privately funded by King Charles, with any other sources of income now a private matter.

His daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, are keeping their titles. That’s because of old royal rules (shoutout to King George V’s Letters Patent of 1917), which allow daughters of a monarch’s son to keep theirs.

The Palace and even politicians like Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey reckon this move was necessary, calling it “an important step towards rebuilding trust in our institutions and drawing a line under this whole sorry saga”, per The Independent.
