King Charles greets Liz Truss with "Dear oh dear" as weekly audience meeting filmed

King Charles was filmed at the start of the first weekly audience with the prime minister with the King addressing her with "Dear oh dear" as she was welcomed into the room.

It is the third time the King has met the Prime Minister Liz Truss, with the pair officially meeting for the first time at Buckingham Palace on September 9, the day after the Queen died.

However, yesterday evening was the first of Charles and Ms Truss's private audiences.

The brief meetings are scheduled to take place once a week, and are attended by only the monarch and the prime minister.

The audiences are used to discuss government matters, and are an opportunity for the prime minister to inform the monarch of any important updates they need to be aware of, and the latter to provide their advice in return.

However, tensions could rise between Charles and Ms Truss, as sources have claimed that the pair may not see eye-to-eye on certain matters.

The belief is strongly held by members of the royal household, as Charles has been advised by Ms Truss to avoid attending the COP27 meeting in Egypt next month.

The King was due to make a keynote speech on the climate emergency at the global environmental conference.

Despite the audiences being private, a part of this one was filmed and shared online.

ITV News royal editor Chris Ship shared a clip of the video to Twitter, captioning it: "Not much to talk about between the King and his Prime Minister? #economy #bonds #minibudget #interestrates #mortgages #uturn."

In the clip, Ms Truss could be seen being led through a pair of double doors by palace staff, who notified the King of her arrival.

The prime minister extended a warm greeting to the King, curtseying as she said: "Your majesty", before shaking his hand and continuing: "Lovely to see you again, it's a great pleasure".

To which Charles simply replied with: "Dear oh dear".
