'King Alex Iwobi!' - Arsenal fans delighted as star shines for Nigeria victory

It was a memorable night for Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations, and they had one man to thank.

The Super Eagles played out a fierce contest with Cameroon in the last 16 of the competition, with Nigeria progressing.

Odion Ighalo scored a brace either side of half-time, however it was Alex Iwobi who made the difference.

The Arsenal man linked up with former Watford star Ighalo before coolly slotting home to send his country through.

Iwobi has shown glimpses of what he can do with the Gunners, but often saves his best for the international stage as he's played in a more central position.

But after guiding his nation through to the quarter finals, fans were full of praise for the 23-year-old.

Here's the best of the reaction.

Next season is set to be a big one for Alex Iwobi's Arsenal career.

The 23-year-old was a consistent presence in Unai Emery's side last season, ranking in the top 10 for minutes played last season and featuring for longer than Aaron Ramsey, Henrikh Mkhitaryan or Mesut Ozil.

The Nigerian international showed signs of improvement under Emery last season, producing his best return of goals (six) and assists (nine).

Iwobi will be hoping to improve these numbers further as he looks to establish himself in Emery's side.
