Kindy kids keen to start school in 2021 after a year like no other

New chapter: Fynn Hannigan, Charlene Reid and Scarlett Tuck, who said she was looking forward to playing and learning how to read. Scarlett said school would be fun.

FYNN Hannigan is so excited to start big school he told his dad Shaughn he would catch the bus on his own on his first day.

"He's 100 per cent ready," Mr Hannigan said.

"He's a very confident child so he comes in to school and off he goes. On his first day he'll walk away like he did at preschool, no tears."

Fynn was one of 39 new kindergartners - up from 24 last year - to participate in St Joseph's Primary Kilaben Bay's third and final playdate on Monday, where they reunited with their buddies, participated in play and problem solving activities and visited the canteen and library.

COVID-19 meant the school had to change its transition program this year. Students were given orientation packs and did two Zoom sessions before the playdates. Principal Charlene Reid said the program helped parents and students feel confident.
