'Kindness is power': Marcus Rashford's classy gift to young football fan who set up foodbank

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is already a hero to millions for his exploits on and off the pitch.

And his latest move looks set to win him even more admirers, the Mirror reports.

Despite being busy trying to help England achieve Euro 2020 glory this summer, Wythenshawe-raised Rashford has still managed to find time to reward a young football supporter.

Eight-year-old Joshua, an avid Barrow AFC fan, helped set up the 'Barrow United' foodbank last year.

The foodbank handed out 50 festive hampers to those who needed it the most in the community in the run-up to Christmas.

Now, Joshua has received a gift of his own after Rashford, who was awarded an MBE last year for his free school meals campaign, sent him a Playstation 5 console.

The surprise came along with a personal letter from the Manchester United star.

Joshua said: "I just want to say a massive thank you to Marcus Rashford.

"I am so happy I am just lost for words! It’s an amazing gesture and I couldn’t believe it when I found out – I am over the moon.

"Me and my family will all be watching on Saturday and cheering extra loud for Marcus and the boys against Ukraine."

Rashford then tweeted out earlier today: "Good lad Joshua. Nothing less than he deserves. Kindness is power."

Craig Rutherford, from the League Two Barrow's Community Trust, said: "We have all been completely blown away by Joshua's maturity and empathy towards people who may be in need.

"We’re really happy to have helped him bring his idea to life and we all agree he’s a credit to his parents and his school."
