'Kindhearted' young Knocklyon man, 23, tragically killed in accident in Thailand

The devastated family of a "kindhearted" young south Dublin man are appealing for help to bring his body home from Thailand.

Roy Heaney, 23, was killed in a fatal accident in the southeast Asian country last weekend.

The Knocklyon man's heartbroken family now face the nightmare of repatriating his body back to Ireland and have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with the costs.

They said: "Roy was a self-driven young man who chased his dreams doing the things he loved which included fitness, traveling, business, and meeting new people.

"He was a kind-hearted young man with big ambition whose life was tragically cut short.

"He was destined for big things and was an inspiration to his family and friends.

"Roy was involved in a fatal accident in Thailand at 23 years of age. We are setting up this trust to give support to his family for any costs related to bringing Roy home."

All funds raised will go directly to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, an organisation that helps the families of people who have died suddenly abroad bring their remains back to Ireland.

The campaign was launched yesterday and has already raised over €10,000 with donors flooding the family with condolences and stories of Roy's remarkable acts of random kindness, including how he once saved a stranger's dog from a vicious attack.

The dog owner wrote: "I didn’t really know Roy except for his random act of kindness, along with his friend, who while staying in Phuket came to the rescue of my dog as he was being viciously attacked by another. So shocking and sad to hear this."

Another pal remembered Roy as a "gentleman".

She said: "Had lovely conversations with Roy, he was a true gentleman. Rest in Peace Roy, thinking of you all."

Others sent messages of condolence to Roy's grief-stricken family.

One woman wrote: "Heartbroken for his mum Caroline, his aunties and all the family. My thoughts and prayers are with them all."

Donations to the repatriation fund can be made here.
