As freezing temperatures hit the capital at night, a number of kindhearted locals have been trying to keep the homeless warm.
It emerged on Tuesday that a sickening 10,514 people are homeless in Ireland, the highest number ever recorded.
And now, in a heartwarming act, members of the public have been leaving coats on Dublin's iconic Ha’penny Bridge for homeless people to pick up.
The picture of the jackets on the Liffey footbridge has been shared on social media by The Irishtown House pub.
A sign next to the jackets says: “If you need one, then please take one. If you want to help, please hang one up. #warmforwinter”
Social media users praised the initiative with one person said: “What a great way to show kindness and caring.”
Another person said: “Brilliant! Well done!”
A third person hit out at the Government saying: “This is a great idea!!
"Meanwhile, the government wants to spend €20,000,000 on white water raft centre, and we have a major homeless and hospital/home care disasters going on in the country. Priorities!!!”
On Tuesday night Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy survived a motion of no confidence in the Dail.
The Minister was saved by TDs who voted by 56 votes to 53 against the motion, with 35 TDs abstaining.
It is the second time in just over a year that opposition politicians have called for his head through a motion of no confidence as homeless figures soared to their highest level ever.
