Kindess Street Team who look after Glasgow's most vulnerable planning 'recovery' walk through town

A Glasgow community group which provides food, clothing, toiletries and emotional support to Glasgow's homeless and vulnerable people is planning to stage a 'recovery' walk next month.

Kindness Street Team, which operates a soup kitchen in George Square four days a week, hopes that the June 26 walk will be "a celebration of recovery whether that be from mental health, alcohol and drug addictions".

The walk will bring people in recovery from mental health, alcohol and drug problems together along with their loved ones, friends and families, with the aim of "making recovery visible" to show that "people can and do recover".

The day will start with a remembrance ceremony on the River Clyde next to the boat house, with speakers such as comedians Gary Faulds and Dee Maxwell on hand to chat about their own life experiences and loss.

Local busker Jordan Winter will also sing specially selected remembrance songs along with the group's bagpiper Mark Morrison.

The walk will then travel to a finish point at the People's Palace in Glasgow Green, with a serenity prayer bringing the day's event to a close.
