Kind strangers pull together to give struggling mum and baby magical Christmas

A mum has been bowled over by the support and kindness of people in her community who are helping to give her and her baby a magical Christmas.

Karen, from Leeds, posted an appeal online to help the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, and her 10-month-old daughter who have fallen on hard times this festive season.

The incredible community have reached out and donated toys, books, clothes as well as other essentials - with the family now set to enjoy their own Christmas miracle, Leeds Live reports.

Donator Sheridan Hewitt, who became a support worker after growing up in the care system, said: "It makes me feel whole inside, I have felt that struggle myself after growing up in foster care.

"It helps me mentally knowing I can help others get out of the dark places."

Sheridan, who has also worked with the charity Leeds Baby Bank, now has twins aged three and knows the struggles of funding for children and wants any parent struggling to not be ashamed to reach out to her or an organisation for support.

She added: "No child or anyone should struggle.

"I have been lucky to come out the other side so it's my turn to give a bit back."

Sheridan has also organised food projects and urges anyone in need to reach out. (Leeds Live)

Chloe Egan, one of the little girls' unsung heroes, donated some toys and books that her three-year-old didn't use anymore.

Chloe said: "I really like helping people, I've been brought up to help anyone that needs it.

"After I took the toys to the little girl, I took a car full to a place on Lincoln Green for their toy appeal - my three-year-old wanted to share with the other boys and girls."

Antonia Monkman, who had previously been in a similar position, said: "If I can make one small family happy and help them then that’s what I will do.

"A few years ago I had a lady do similar for me, it helped me and put a smile on my baby's face, I just hope I can do the same for this lady and her little girl."

Karen said: "I just want to thank everyone from the Leeds community for coming together and helping out.

"This really is a shock to how many people are so kind and thoughtful.

"Let’s make their Christmas the best ever. Everyone deserves to have some kind of spark in their life."

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: "It has helped me a lot as I now know I have people to talk to if I'm struggling."
