Kind strangers donate hundreds to elderly woman who had last £90 stolen at Asda

Kind strangers have given hundreds to an elderly woman who had her last £90 stolen while shopping in Asda.

The 79-year-old was pushing her trolley around the superstore on Utting Avenue, Walton, on November 26 when a thief swiped her bag.

Her daughter said she was left in a "right mess" when she noticed the bag and money was gone.

But after the lady's daughter posted about the incident on Facebook, hundreds of people have come forward to offer help.

And kind strangers have also donated money to replace the cash that was stolen.

Sharing a PayPal Pool page, a friend of the woman's daughter said: "Frances was mugged of every bit of her Christmas money.

"I am going to make sure she gets that back."

Contributing to the page, people have shared their well wishes with the woman and her family.

One woman said: "Hope you have a lovely Christmas, I'm sorry there are some horrible people around.

"I hope this reminds you that there are more good."

Another added: "Frances, sorry to hear about your ordeal.

"Some people really are the lowest of the low.

"Hopefully this small contribution combined with all the other lovely generous people on here will bring you some Christmas cheer."

Donna Ryan, who set up the page, had put the target at £90 to get Frances her money back but generous donations from the public have smashed that and almost £400 was raised in less than a day.

On Facebook, Donna said: "Not many things make me so angry than hearing of the news that an 80 year old lady being mugged of her Xmas shopping money in Liverpool - it’s a friends mum.

"Frances is of the generation where she wouldn’t complain or tell anyone it was her Xmas shopping money - it was only £90 but to her it was all she had.

"Anyone wanna join me in sending a couple of quid to this elderly lady. Breaks my heart."

Police said an investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing.

Afterwards, the woman's daughter posted on a Facebook community group to warn people what had happened to her mum.

She angrily called the thief a “coward” for targeting her mum and said: “I hope karma gets you - she’s in a right mess”.

She added: “You took her last 90 pound too, I hope you meet your match”.

People posted in the comments expressing their disgust at the theft.

Several people called the thief a “scumbag” and a “lowlife”.

One woman posted: “Disgraceful person to the community! Hope your mum is ok and that karma gets the person back”.
