Kind neighbours, selfless volunteers and community champions sought for NottinghamshireLive Heroes 2020

Nominations have started to roll in for the NottinghamshireLive Heroes 2020 awards, and we’re hoping to hear from you.

This year will mark six years since we handed out our first award, and the calibre of nominees and award-winners has been stellar – but we know they are some unsung heroes out there still to be found.

Prizes will be handed out for kind neighbours, healthcare champions and selfless volunteers, among others, in our virtual awards ceremony, set to take place on November 10.

The event – sponsored by the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping – will recognise people from all walks of life that inspire others with their acts of courage, determination and selflessness.

That may include generous volunteers, Environmental Heroes and a special award for an emergency services worker who has gone beyond the call of duty. There’ll be an overall Hero of Nottinghamshire 2020 prize too.

Editor of the Nottingham Post and Nottinghamshire Live Natalie Fahy is looking forward to seeing who’ll join her at the ceremony.

She said: "There have been some truly inspiring stories in recent months from people across our city and county who have been heroes in their own way.

"They might not think of themselves as a hero, but those are exactly the kinds of people we are looking for – the unsung saviours of our communities.

"Please get nominating your friends, neighbours and colleagues and give them the recognition they deserve."

Nominations are now open, and they’re set to close on October 7. Three finalists will be shortlisted within each category by the judging panel the following week.

The virtual awards ceremony – hosted by Mark Dennison – will take place on Tuesday, November 10 and will be streamed live on NottinghamshireLive. Special guests, interactive activities and prize giveaways will make the ceremony even more exciting for everyone in the community.
