Kind-hearted West Lothian teenager cuts off her hair to make a wig for child with cancer

A West Lothian teenager has had her long locks chopped off in aid of the charity Little Princess Trust.

Niamh Millar, 17, from Blackburn, has had a whopping 15 inches cut off of her 26 inch length hair in order for it to be made into a wig for a child, who has lost their hair due to cancer.

Speaking to EdinburghLive, Niamh said: "I was going to cut my hair before university, as I wanted a change but since it was so long, I didn't want it to go to waste.

"So, I decided the Little Princess Trust would be the best people to benefit from it as they provide wigs for children who have lost their hair due to various medical conditions."

Niamh, who is moving on to study Philosphy/Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Glasgow, is hoping her donation will benefit more than just one child at the Little Princess Trust.

She added: "I hope to restore the confidence and identity of children who have lost their hair due to this horrible conditions.

"It also costs the Little Princess Trust £550 to produce, style and fit a wig for the child who needs it, so I hope that the money I have raised alongside this can go towards the making of wigs for lots of children."

The charity Little Princess Trust, provide real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other conditions.

Since 2006, the charity has provided more than 8,000 wigs and have given grants totalling more than £7 million towards research projects focussed on finding more effective treatments for childhood cancers.

So far, Niamh has raised almost £1,000 for the charity, and the donation link is still open.
