A group of teenage girls have been praised for their “amazing kindness” after they clubbed together to pay for a taxi for an elderly woman who was struggling to get home.
Charlie Sykes, 13, Danae Mahoney, 13, Ruby Dixon, 14, and Kaydi Warren, 12, reportedly helped the woman after noticing she’d been stuck “for a while” getting cold.
The pensioner was unable to walk back home after police taped off a large section of road in the town of Eccles, Salford.
The 100-metre cordon was put in place and homes were evacuated after Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers found a suspicious package.
The elderly woman was caught on the wrong side of the cordon until the four friends pulled together enough money to get her a taxi home.
Local police praised the “amazing display of kindness” on the GMP Eccles Facebook page.
Sharing a photo of the girls huddled together as they gathered together their change, the force wrote: “That’s your random act of kindness done.”
PC Carl Blower told the Manchester Evening News: "The elderly lady lives on the other side of the cordon and she started to feel a chill.
“I put her in the car, and (the girls) said they would phone a taxi and pay for it. With everything that's going on, it's so nice to see."
Facebook users shared their delight at the teenagers’ generosity, with one writing: "Pleasant surprise for Eccles, not all kids are bad, some actually care."
Another added: "Well done guys! We only ever hear about the up to no good kids, and there's so many more decent kids out there who never get a mention! Absolute stars these are. Thanks GMP for the uplifting post."
