Kind-hearted stranger gifts 'lifeline' PS5 to Scottish schoolgirl who relapsed with cancer

A kind-hearted stranger has gifted a PS5 to a schoolgirl who has recently relapsed with leukaemia and is facing gruelling treatment.

Fife mum Shirley Allison put out a desperate appeal for the console, which she said would be a "lifeline" to her gaming-mad daughter Erin.

Erin was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2018 and, just weeks before Christmas, the family were told the teenager had suffered a relapse.

Shirley, from Dunfermline, said she was willing to pay and had even contacted Sony for help to get a hold of one of the sell-out PS5 consoles.

In a heartwarming turn of events, the family's Christmas wish has been granted after a kind stranger reached out with a very generous gift.

Dean McGill told Edinburgh Live that after seeing Shirley's plea he got in touch with her directly and has already handed over a brand new PS5, which is even still sealed in its box.

Speaking of the touching moment when he gave Erin's mum the console, the Fife electrician said: "There was a lot of tears.

"The wee one is out hospital tonight [Friday] and will be given the PlayStation to keep her mind strong."

Speaking previously, Shirley said: "We wanted to get her a Playstation 5 as gaming is like a lifeline for her during her treatment for leukaemia.

“She has lost a lot of friends as she has to undergo treatment and kids don’t really know what to do or say but she has made pals through gaming and even has one wee pal who stays not far and plays online with her."
