A kind-hearted couple who fell in love while helping the homeless during the pandemic are getting married.
Alex Mackenzie proposed to Clare McIntyre at Glasgow’s George Square, where the pair have been feeding some of the city’s most vulnerable people over the past six months.
The love story began when the couple met as they decided to volunteer with the Kindness Homeless Street Team, just as the country was being plunged into lockdown.
They now plan to involve the team and their homeless friends in their big day.
Mum-of-two Clare, 42, said she knew it was “meant to be” when she met Alex, 39, at a unit sorting donations in March.
The administrator, from Neilston, Renfrewshire, said: “I was put on furlough from my work and had seen something on Facebook about the Kindness Team.
“I realised I had everything I need during the pandemic and there were people out there with nothing, so decided I was going to do something to help.
“I dropped food off first then got in touch about volunteering and that’s when I met Alex. He showed me the ropes.”
The pair quickly became a couple and their love blossomed as they worked handing out hot meals and essentials in George Square.
Clare said: “I never thought you would just meet somebody and know that person was to be your best friend, soulmate and the person you were meant to be with.”
Alex said he will always be grateful to Kindness for helping him find his fiancee.
He said: “Me and Clare would chat when we were organising the food and quickly realised that we were meant to be together.”
